Overpressure protection devices are used to protect pressure gauges from damage (loss of precision, fracture), which can occur in the system at too high pressure. Under normal pressure conditions the spring holds the valve open. When the system pressure exceeds the set pressure, the force exerted by the spring is over come and the valve closes.
